Golley’s week that was #2

We’ve been visiting businesses across Wales for our Apprenticeship Week Wales campaign

This week, the Production team have been on various locations throughout Wales to take photos for an upcoming Apprenticeship Week Wales campaign. The campaign will run throughout February and March and will aim to promote Apprenticeships for Employers.

The team headed to Emmy & Bafta award-winning special effects company Real SFX and met with Carmela – company director – as well as some of the apprentices on her team. Real SFX background have worked on shows like Doctor Who, Peaky Blinders, Luther, and Coronation Street and have recently relocated to Wales from London.

They also paid a visit to Tata Steel in Port Talbot to meet Apprentice of the Year Sally Hughes and took a tour around the famous steelworks.

We headed to the Hilton to create some tasty content

Trying to get rid of that Christmas bloat and setting new personal challenges is what January is all about, isn’t it? One of the popular ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ people make is to try to and eat vegan for a month. This is something that can be difficult, but with tasty recipes like the falafel burgers and kebabs, the Hilton hotel in Cardiff is trying to help its customer explore new flavours.

We spent the afternoon with Mark Freeman, head chef at Grey restaurant, who showed us how to make this Middle Eastern dish three different ways. Check out this behind-the-scene, and keep your eyes peeled for the finished video!

Internal comms was the topic of discussion at this month’s CIPR

A few of us went along to the ‘Rise and Shine’ on Thursday morning, where the Head of Internal Communications at GWR – Rhian Moore – shared how they’ve transformed from a team who just send stuff out, to developing a more strategic approach that is planned and evaluated. She discussed the issues that GWR faced when it came to communicating with their staff, the problems of being such a large and varied organisation, and how they looked to overcame them. This included setting specific objectives, gaining insight and understanding of their staff, how they like being spoken to, and using stats to prove the value of their approach. It was really useful to learn more about internal communications, and there were certainly many lessons we can and will incorporate into our own work!
