This week, we went to FabLab as part of the new #FutureWorkWales campaign which is being launched by our client Careers Wales to educate young people about the future economy. Located at Cardiff Metropolitan’s School of Art and Design, FabLab is a creative space that focuses on teaching digital manufacturing technologies like 3D printing and laser cutting. We organised an event to give pupils the chance to hear about the jobs, skills and industries of the future, and how technology is impacting the world of work. The video will educate 14-15-year olds about new industries and jobs of the future, particularly the digital industries. We discussed what skills are important for young people to gain in the next few years if they want to pursue a career in a company like Tinint. On Friday, clients Hugh James held a study day at the Marriot Hotel in Swansea focused on mesothelioma, a type of cancer commonly caused by asbestos exposure. The aim of the event was to bring together health professionals and legal experts to discuss the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, as well as educate people on their legal options should they be diagnosed with it. This week we ran our own version of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity – the annual awards celebrating the best creative work from in the communications industry. We all nominated our favourite ads, watched them, critiqued them and then voted for our favourites in two categories. In the first category, Film, our winner was ‘Amazon – Alexa Loses Her Voice’ by Lucky Generals, closely followed by ‘Tide – It’s a Tide Ad’ by Saatchi & Saatchi New York and ‘Audi – Clowns’ by BBH. In our PR/social category the winner, quite overwhelmingly, was ‘Pedigree – SelfieSTIX’ by Colenso BBDO, with ‘EDEKA – Most German Supermarket’ by Jung von Marr and ‘KFC – FCK’ by Mother as tied second. We’ll be eagerly awaiting the results next week to see if we predicted any of the winners!
Our client Hilton had some media coverage this week for its impressive charity fundraising efforts. The hotel has raised almost £14,000 for local charities including the DM Thomas Foundation for children and Cardiff City FC foundation, which supports disadvantaged families. Well done guys!
