You may have seen on our social channels that we’re sponsoring Wales Week in London, a two-week festival championing Welsh business and culture in the national capital.
To celebrate, a group of us from Golleys faced the ‘beast from the East’ yesterday and travelled to London. Why would we brace the elements to do such a thing, we hear you ask?!
Well, we wanted to do something to celebrate some exciting creativity coming out of Wales.
Too often, Welsh culture is associated with choirs and rugby, so we wanted to get people to reappraise the stereotypes and shine a light on the country’s exciting, contemporary creative scene.
In a nutshell, our ambition was to get Londoners paying attention to what our small but brilliant country has to offer, by stopping them in their tracks during their morning commute.
Our idea was to set up a ‘fifth plinth’ on Trafalgar Square, in the heart of London’s art scene, to monument Welsh creativity. Literally.
Our ‘plinth’ was kindly created by Wild Creations, whose founder Matt Wild was one of our six collaborators. Each creator posed as a real-life statue, showcasing their creativity and proud heritage.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes film showing how it all came together.

Though it was just an eclectic snapshot of Wales’ creative scene, it was an important opportunity for us to shout about some of the great things going on in our small but clever nation!
