Our regular round-up of what’s been going on in the Golley Slater Cardiff office over the last seven days.

We mingled with the brightest sparks in Wales

A few of the PR team ventured up to the remote location of Cefn Lea conference centre (closely resembling a secluded ski lodge in the Alps) in the heart of mid Wales, for client the Seren Network’s ‘Above and Beyond’conference this week. Seren is a network of regional hubs across Wales aimed at inspiring and supporting Wales’ brightest sparks to achieve their academic potential and gain access to leading universities. With around 1,600 pupils and teachers, 30 leading universities and 30 outstanding speakers – all gathered in one place – it was a recipe for brilliance! Students from the University of South Wales visited our offices for a taste of agency life

This week we invited MSc and undergraduate PR students from USW into the office to experience life at an integrated agency. The visit included talks from members of the PR and social team, who took the students through day-to-day agency life, crisis comms and new business. The team also looked back on case studies and discussed the changes and challenges arising as a result of the increased need for digital. It was a great chance to talk to them about the different partnerships we have with the creative community in Cardiff, including other universities, the CIPR, PRCA and Creative Cardiff. It was positive to see such an engaged group of students, and we look forward to seeing them again in the future.

We’re looking forward to linking up with London-based audiences and showing that creativity doesn’t just belong in London, it can be found right here too.

Our work had a mention in a rather unusual publication

Fans of the film Notting Hill will appreciate our work being featured in this week’s Horse and Hound magazine – yes, you read that correctly! In an interview with the publication, our creative director David Abbott discussed the use of horses in TV ads, talking specifically about the advert we created for Mitsubishi. The ad, which features a range of hybrid creatures including a Pegasus, has already been widely talked about, but to be featured in Horse and Hound was an unusual one to add to the list. In the article, Dave talks about how the filming took place and what it was like to work with the animal – which he describes as being simpler than working with children! He also discussed how the editing transformed the horse into a mythical creature, as well as analysing the use of horses in the industry.
